FIRST RIDE IN A KR-2!

posted December 8, 1999

Well, here I am, getting ready to climb out of Paul Martin's KR-2 just after my first flight in it. What a blast! Southern Oregon's Mt. McLoughlin in the background.

You get a feel for the size of a stock KR-2 here. Just to give you an idea of the scale, I'm 6'-7" and weigh 210 lbs.

Not! I'm actually 5'-9" and 135 lbs. without my keyring on me ;o) Paul's plane is a Diehl tri-gear conversion of a (former) stock KR-2 retract. It's now in Paul's shop for the winter, getting paint, wheel pants, and other speed mods.

Turning left base to final for Rwy 32 at Medford-Rogue Valley International Airport (really!), airspeed was probably 95 MPH here. I forget.

And here we are on final, established smack-dab on the VASI. Yeah, the oil temp on Paul's HAPI 1835 VW runs very cool. OAT was probably 50F.

If you haven't yet gone up in a KR, what the heck are you waiting for???
