Carl Vought's Pietenpol

The Late Carl Vought's Pietenpol Project

created October 25, 2006

This is the Ford engine that Carl had begun converting for use in his Piet project. I have no details other than what you see in the photos and what I have heard about Carl and his work, which is that he was a very careful builder and did excellent work. As you can see from the photos, the engine was in progress but not complete. Some of the conversion has been done, such as the prop hub and oil system modifications, an exhaust and intake manifold, and the beginnings of a copper intake manifold.

Oil pan gasket appears to be in process of being shaped, and that looks like a carb heat muff on the workbench.

The dual-plug aluminum head, another exhaust manifold, two carburetors, and an "ah-oo-gah" horn.

A better look at the head and combustion chambers, as well as one of the carbs.

The head and the two carbs.
