Cannon Field

Cannon Field

created November 29, 2008

After fueling up (both me with Thanksgiving dinner and the airplane with 100LL), we made a scouting sortie to Cannon Field, south of San Antonio and maybe 25 mi. from my home base at San Geronimo. Cannon is home to the International Liaison Pilot and Aircraft Association. I had made low passes over the field before, but this was my first landing there and the first attempt was a no-go. The runway has a belly in the middle and by the time I realized that I wasn't coming down fast enough, half the strip was gone so I went around. Next try was a good one. I parked the airplane and went to poke around in the hangars.

I noticed this Aeronca L-3B (O-58B) and decided to take a few pix since Corky is planning to trim out his Defender to resemble an L-3B. This one seems to be airworthy, but in need of some TLC.

We get a bit closer...

There's the nomenclature on the empennage. This one is registered showing that it has a C-85.

The front cockpit. Everything seems to be there.

Another shot of the cockpit.
